Two-day stand alone courses are being offered this year to provide options for administrators needing less Act 48 PIL hours. Four courses are included and explained below.

These institutes are appropriate for all principals, assistant principals, superintendents, assistant superintendents, and IU Executive Directors as continuing professional education to meet the requirements of Act 45. Thirty (30) Act 48 PIL hours will be awarded upon completion.

PLDC COROLLARY STANDARDS

Each course provides two days of in-class training with embedded activities between sessions. In addition, participants will have on-going contact with the facilitators throughout the year. Once completed, each course provides 30 Act 48 PIL hours.

Two of the six courses developed by the Pennsylvania Leadership Development Center (PLDC) are being offered next year in Region 2.

LEADING LEARNING IN 21ST CENTURY SCHOOLS

Berks County Intermediate Unit

This course will assist leaders in developing a culture that focuses on the learner. It is structured as an interactive opportunity for the participant to develop plan and methodologies for creating a cultural shift in teaching and impacting learning.

LEADING THE MANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES IN 21ST CENTURY SCHOOLS

In this institute, participants will learn to grasp the importance of daily managing that is aligned to long term success and results, and the importance of working through the culture to manage results.

 

 


NISL INSTITUTES

The National Institute for School Leadership (NISL) has developed two new institutes that will be offered in Region 2 this year.

Institute #1
LEADERSHIP FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES (SWD)

May 9 & 10; June 16, 2011
Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit

This three-day institute is designed to prepare superintendents, assistant superintendents, IU executive directors, principals, and assistant principals to exercise strategic and systemic leadership inspiring, mentoring, and mobilizing faculty and staff to address the learning needs of students with disabilities (SWD). Participants will design and develop continuous professional learning systems for school faculty and staff with a focus on supporting all students and considering inclusion approaches for students with disabilities.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

March 9, 10 & 11; May 3 & 4, 2011

The purpose of this institute is to create an executive leadership program that will engage and connect Pre-K providers of child development and learning to elementary school leaders (Birth through Grade 3) through a common vision, mission, and performance linkages.
