Background
A group of approximately 40 educators representing superintendents, principals, intermediate units, higher education, various professional organizations and the Pennsylvania Department of Education met during the second semester of 2004-05 to develop a common set of standards for school leadership.
The committee was co-chaired by Stinson Stroup, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators, and Terry Barnaby, Associate Executive Director of the Pennsylvania State Education Association. |
Leadership Basics
From the work of this committee, the following leadership recommendations were presented and later approved:
- Three Core Leadership Standards
- Six Corollary Leadership Standards
- Two program components, Grow and Support
- 2005/06 school year: four regions, two Grow programs, and two Support programs
- 2006/07 school year: eight regions, eight Grow programs, and six Support programs
- 2007/08 school year: eight regions, eight Grow programs, and eight LEAD (Support) programs.
- 2008/09 school year: eight regions, multiple GROW (PIP), LEAD, and Corollary Standards cohorts.
- 2009/10 school year: eight regions, multiple GROW(PIP), LEAD, and Corollary Standards cohorts, plus 2-day Institutes.
