LEAD Program (SUPPORT)
LEAD, which stands for Leadership Essentials for Administrator Development, is designed for experienced school district or intermediate unit administrators with five years or more of experience. (superintendents, assistant superintendents, vocational directors, principals, etc.)
The LEAD curriculum was developed based on the work done by the Pennsylvania Leadership Development Center (PLDC) on Chuck Schwahn and Bill Spady’s Total Leaders framework. A Pennsylvania-adapted version of this Total Leaders framework was created to address the three "CORE" Leadership Standards.
Curriculum Design Framework
In order to modify the Total Leaders framework to address the three "CORE" Leadership Standards, a Curriculum Design Committee was formed. This committee had representation from:
- PLDC (PA Leadership Development Center) - Total Leaders Curriculum
- Intermediate Units - curriculum directors
- PDE - Tools for School improvement; High Leverage Practices
- Duquesne University - PLDC
- PDE Project Leaders
- Project Managers
- Regional Site Coordinators
Three sub-committees developed units around each of the three researched-based "CORE" standards and blended the Total Leaders curriculum, Pennsylvania Department of Education High Leverage Practices and the Pennsylvania Department of Education Tools into the units.
Leadership in Action Project
A Leadership in Action Project has been included in the LEAD program in order to provide evidence of mastery of the three “Core” Pennsylvania Leadership Standards. This project will be selected by the participants with the focus of increasing student achievement in their schools or districts. The goals of the project will be aligned with the three “Core” Pennsylvania Leadership Standards. The project will be divided into three stages, each aligned with one of the “Core” Standards. On the final day of LEAD training, the participants will present their project by demonstrating evidence of the three “Core” Leadership Standards. |
