All principals who are new to the position on or after January 1, 2008
must complete the Principals’ Induction Program within five years. The
program consists of two courses, based on the National Institute for
School Leadership (NISL) curriculum. Each course is offered in one year.
The first course (NISL Course 1) includes four units and these units are
presented over an eight-day period throughout the year. The second
course (NISL Course 4) includes three units and these units are presented
over a five-day period throughout the second year. Act 48 CPE are
awarded for the completion of each course. Course 1 provides 3 CPE, or
90 Act 48 hours, and Course 4 awards 2 CPE, or 60 Act 48 hours. A

principals and assistant principals with less than five years experience.
The Continuing Profession Education Programs are designed for experienced
administrators with five or more years of experience. They include the
LEAD (Leadership Essentials for Administrator Development) that addresses
the three ‘Core’ Leadership Standards, plus the two remaining NISL
courses (Course 2 and 3) that address the six ‘Corollary’ Leadership
Standards. Act 48 CPE are awarded for the completion of each course.
